Aeroplan
Aeroplan is Air Canada’s loyalty programme, and one of Canada’s most popular travel rewards currencies. Members earn Aeroplan points by flying Air Canada and its Star Alliance partners, shopping at over 150 retail and travel partners, and most importantly — by holding an Aeroplan co-branded credit card. Points can be redeemed for flights, seat upgrades, hotel stays, car rentals, and merchandise, with flights generally offering the best value.
Aeroplan uses a distance and fare class-based award chart for redemptions, which means the number of points required depends on the route and the type of ticket. This creates opportunities to find exceptional value on premium cabin redemptions with Star Alliance partners — a key reason Aeroplan is favoured by points enthusiasts.

Canadian Context
Aeroplan is uniquely Canadian and is deeply integrated into the Canadian banking ecosystem — TD and CIBC each offer Aeroplan credit cards with competitive earn rates. Unlike US programmes such as United MileagePlus, Aeroplan does not use a purely dynamic pricing model; its distance-based chart can offer predictable and high-value redemptions on partner airlines. Since Air Canada reacquired Aeroplan in 2020, the programme has expanded point transfer partnerships and added the ability to redeem at a fixed 1.5¢/pt on Air Canada flights booked through the portal.
