WestJet Dollars — Canadian Credit Card Glossary

Updated

WestJet Dollars

WestJet Dollars are the loyalty currency of WestJet Rewards, WestJet’s frequent flyer programme. Unlike traditional points or miles programmes, WestJet Dollars are intentionally simple: 1 WestJet Dollar is always worth exactly $1 when applied toward WestJet flights or WestJet Vacations packages. There are no award charts to master, no blackout dates, and no complex redemption rules — what you earn is what you get.

Members earn WestJet Dollars by flying WestJet (as a percentage of the base fare) and by using an RBC WestJet co-branded credit card, which earns WestJet Dollars on everyday purchases. WestJet Dollars can also be applied to flights for anyone on your booking, not just yourself.

Canadian Context

WestJet Dollars are a Canadian-only currency tied exclusively to WestJet, Canada’s second-largest airline. The programme’s simplicity is a deliberate contrast to Aeroplan’s complexity. However, because the value is fixed at 1¢ per WestJet Dollar, there is no opportunity to extract outsized value through premium cabin transfers the way you might with Aeroplan or Avion Rewards. For Canadians who fly WestJet regularly and prefer simplicity over optimization, WestJet Dollars are an excellent choice. The RBC WestJet World Elite Mastercard also includes a companion voucher — a benefit with meaningful real-world value for couples and families.
