How to Use These Calculators
Each calculator lets you enter your typical monthly spending in categories like groceries, gas, dining, and travel. The tool shows:
- Points earned per month at the current card earn rates
- Points earned per year
- Estimated CAD value based on standard redemption benchmarks
All figures are in Canadian dollars and reflect current earn rates — verify with the card issuer before applying.
Why Points Value Varies
Points programmes don’t have a fixed cash value. What you get per point depends on how you redeem:
- Flight redemptions typically deliver the best value (1.5–4.0 cents/point)
- Travel portal bookings are convenient but lower value (0.5–1.0 cents/point)
- Merchandise and gift cards usually give the poorest return (0.3–0.7 cents/point)
The calculators use conservative flight-redemption benchmarks to reflect realistic value for engaged points users.
