How Air Miles Prices Flights
Air Miles uses a cash-to-miles conversion model rather than a fixed award chart. At roughly $0.12–$0.18 per Dream Mile in flight value, you can estimate:

Example: $600 round trip to YVR ÷ $0.15 = ~4,000 Dream Miles
This means miles requirements scale with fare prices — redemptions are available on all available seats but cost more when fares are high.
How to Book an Air Miles Flight
- Log in at airmiles.ca
- Navigate to the Flights section in the travel centre
- Search for your route and dates — Air Miles shows both cash and Dream Miles pricing
- Select your flight and choose how many miles to apply (partial miles redemptions are allowed — pay the rest with your BMO Air Miles card)
- Complete the booking
Partial redemptions: You can mix Dream Miles with cash for the same booking — you don’t need enough miles for the full flight.
Is Redeeming Air Miles for Flights Worth It?
At 12–20¢ per Dream Mile for flights:
- Earning rate on BMO Air Miles World Elite: 3x at grocery/transit/drugstore
- At 1 mile per $15 spent (BMO’s earn structure), you earn 1 Dream Mile ≈ $0.15 in value per $15 spent = ~1% return at grocery
Compared to a 5% grocery cash back card like BMO CashBack World Elite, Air Miles underperforms on grocery. Air Miles is best for cardholders who are already embedded in the programme and want to use accumulated miles — not as a strategy for maximising returns from scratch.
