PC Optimum points do not expire as long as your account remains active. An account is considered active if you earn or redeem points at least once within a 12-month period.
PC Optimum Expiry Policy
| Condition | Points Status |
|---|---|
| Earn or redeem at least once in 12 months | Points kept — no expiry |
| No activity for 12 months | Account may become inactive; points at risk of forfeiture |
| Account closed by member | Points forfeited |
| Programme discontinued | Subject to PC Optimum’s terms at time of closure |
How to Keep Your Points Active
Any of the following counts as “activity” and resets your 12-month clock:
- Shopping at any Loblaws, No Frills, Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart, or other PC Optimum banner and scanning your card or app
- Paying for a purchase with the PC Financial Mastercard at any location
- Redeeming points at a participating banner
- Earning bonus points through a PC Optimum offer
The easiest method: Pay for a single grocery trip with your PC Financial Mastercard at any eligible store every few months. This earns points AND resets the activity clock.
If You Have a PC Financial Mastercard
If you hold a PC Financial Mastercard, you earn PC Optimum points on every purchase anywhere — which means your account will almost certainly remain active as long as you use the card regularly. The expiry risk is essentially zero for active PC Financial cardholders.
Seasonal or Occasional Shoppers
If you only shop at Loblaws-banner stores occasionally (e.g., seasonal), set a reminder to:
- Make a purchase at any participating banner at least once every 11 months
- Check your account balance at pcoptimum.ca or in the app
What Happens to Inactive Accounts
After 12 months of inactivity, PC Optimum may deactivate your account and forfeit accumulated points. PC Optimum typically sends warning emails before forfeiture — check your spam folder if you haven’t visited a PC Optimum banner in a while.
PC Optimum vs. Other Programmes on Expiry
| Programme | Expiry Policy |
|---|---|
| PC Optimum | No expiry with 12-month activity |
| Aeroplan | Expire after 18 months of inactivity |
| Air Miles | No expiry (as of 2022 policy change) |
| Scene+ | No expiry with member activity |
PC Optimum’s 12-month activity window is shorter than Aeroplan’s 18 months but longer than programmes with annual expiry. Keeping a PC Financial Mastercard essentially eliminates expiry risk.
