The NEXUS trusted traveller card costs $50 CAD per person every 5 years. Several Canadian credit cards include a statement credit that reimburses this fee — making your NEXUS card essentially free if you hold the right credit card.

The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite: The Best Value NEXUS Credit
At $139/year with a $60K income requirement, the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite is the only mid-tier Canadian credit card (under $150 annual fee) that includes NEXUS reimbursement.
Comparison with TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite ($139):
- Both cards earn 1.5x Aeroplan on grocery, gas, and Air Canada
- Both cost $139/year
- CIBC includes NEXUS reimbursement; TD does not
For frequent Canada–US travellers who are choosing between these two cards, CIBC wins on this benefit alone. The $100 NEXUS credit covers the full cost of one NEXUS application (or one renewal) per 4-year cycle.
How the NEXUS Reimbursement Works
- Apply for NEXUS at a Trusted Traveller Programs enrollment centre or at nexus.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca (online conditional approval, then in-person interview)
- Pay the $50 NEXUS fee with your eligible credit card (CIBC, Amex, or TD Privilege)
- Receive a statement credit — typically within 1–2 billing cycles after the NEXUS fee posts
- No action required beyond paying with the card — the credit is automatic for eligible cards
Important: The NEXUS fee must be paid on the eligible credit card. Paying with another card will not trigger the credit.
What the $100 Credit Covers
| Scenario | Coverage |
|---|---|
| One adult NEXUS application | $50 CAD — credit more than covers it |
| Two adults on the same account (primary + additional cardholder) | $100 ÷ 2 = each person’s $50 fee fully covered |
| NEXUS renewal (every 5 years) | $50 — credit covers one renewal per 4-year cycle |
The 4-year credit cycle vs. the 5-year NEXUS validity means the credit doesn’t perfectly align — but most cardholders will use it once per card anniversary cycle and find it fully covers one NEXUS transaction.
Cards Without NEXUS Reimbursement (Notable Omissions)
| Card | Annual Fee |
|---|---|
| TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite | $139 |
| RBC Avion Visa Infinite | $120 |
| Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite | $150 |
| BMO eclipse Visa Infinite | $120 |
| Scotiabank Gold Amex | $120 |
If NEXUS reimbursement is a priority, none of these popular cards provide it.
